Unlike many mountain climbers that claim they've reached the summit of a big mountain without actually standing on the tallest point, Dawg likes his views. At the top of the pass, he went even further, and had I not called him back for some photos, he'd have been standing on the top of those rocks.

Andra is happy to be over the top. Still no rain, but remember how the weather racket works. They stated, "rain after 11am." That's like me saying it will rain after Tuesday. Eventually, you are guaranteed to be right.

What picture would be complete without Dawg! You may be wondering how much his pack weighs. His pack is packed solid to the point I could barely zip it closed. I wish his bags were just slightly bigger, as getting 8 to 9 days of food (our typical trip length) in it is always tough. Despite this volume problem, his pack (contents and all) weighs only 5.18lbs. The secret is the food. He is carrying Stella and Chewy's freeze-dried beef patties. They weigh very little but, due to the air in them, take a good deal of space. A trained dog (acclimated to regular pack work) can carry 25% of its body weight. Dawg is carrying less than 9%. Although I am not a huge fan of dehydrated backpacking food, he much prefers these to his regular food. In fact, you should have seen his excitement when the night before leaving, I opened and resealed the bags to get the air out. I thought he was going to climb into my lap. Unfortunately, at $100 per week, they are not a regular option. If you think otherwise, I'll start a GoFundMe page where you can contribute to his food bill!
