This was a particularly nasty water crossing. It may not look like it, but the water here is about 5 feet deep. So if you fall in, you are going to get fully immersed. The water is moving very fast and if you don't watch the log and instead look at the water, you can get vertigo very easily and in you go. These kind of crossings make Andra very uncomfortable and I didn't want her crossing with her backpack on. If you lack confidence and are scared, the chances of making a mistake are very high. Andra shot this picture of me crossing, but I then dropped my pack and had her lay her backpack onto the log from her side. I then reached across and pulled it over. That deep fast moving channel didn't make it easy on her, but she crossed without issue. See movie below.
She makes it look easy, but anyone that wants to come along on one of our eight day adventures is welcome to try and see how easy it is for them. I think most people we know would be crying about the daily mileage let alone river crossings.

We don't realize it yet, but we missed the correct fork towards Dorothy Lake. We just crossed the outflow of Lake Harriet and we are now on the wrong side. The horse packers stay at Lake Harriet so the trail is well worn and easy to spot.
