As we continued down the road the lingering storm clouds oozed over the mountain peaks behind us. About the time I was risking getting leg cramps we finally reached HWY 395. We stopped at the Mobile Gas Station and Deli and ordered some hamburgers. A construction worker working at Saddlebag lake offered to drive us to our car when he got off at 5pm, but the owner of the Deli, a backpacker himself, beat him to it. Once he got to talking with Dave, he volunteered to drive him over to Silver Lake. We tried to pay him, but he wouldn't take our money. If I need to fill up in Lee Vining, you can be sure it will be at the Mobile. I estimate we hiked almost 15 miles total that day. Instead of 54+ miles spread over nine days, we hiked 49 miles in six.

I hope you enjoyed the photos and our little adventure. I think those that know me well, understand why I like backpacking. Solving a series of ever changing problems with available materials, under adverse conditions is a great challenge. I love a challenge. If you ever decide to try this on your own, remember safety first. Check your male bravado before you leave, and remember to weigh all your options before making snap decisions. Other than that, just have fun!
