On our way back to camp, Andra photographed this small stream cascading down the hillside. You can see the tiny snow patch to the right. At such extreme elevations and so early in the year, we should be using snowshoes. It is crazy dry. The forest is the most unhealthy I've ever seen. The trees are full of so many bug holes they look like a cribbage score board. The heart wood is rotting out of most of them. Broken trees are everywhere as the wind causes their rotted heart wood to snap.

I hate to say it after several years of choking smoke, but this forest needs a wildfire to wipe out the bug population and diseased trees. This process is a healthy part of the natural cycle, and the longer it takes to happen, the more unhealthy the forest will get. Drought and age have made the entire region an unhealthy diseased mess.

This of course is a section of Rush Creek as we made our way back to camp.

After dinner, I start whipping up dessert. I'll give you a hint regarding the contents of the pot. 1) Andra is completely addicted to it. 2) I need to continuously shake the pot or the contents might burn.
