Just before reaching Summit Lake, Dave informed us that he's about done. With an extra heavy pack, the high elevation and the relentless climb he's spent. He not only didn't want to continue to reach a location we could have a fire, he didn't even want to continue to the far end of the lake which was our original plan before we discussed the fire/food issue. We too are very tired and pushing too hard on day one isn't going to help anyone. Andra and I agreed to stop as soon as we reached the lake. We dropped our packs and enjoyed the evening colors as we waited for Dave to arrive.

Although the area wasn't conducive to having a campfire, the scenery was spectacular.

Hmmm. Totally spent or loves sunbathing? I know Andra well enough to say - yes.
